Timeline of Genesis

I like that they're setting out where they believe the days started and ended - it presents the view as a real scientific hypothesis.

Tell me, what would falsify this hypothesis; in terms of things being found to happen on the 'wrong day'?

Gotta have that falsifiability!

That's a good question. If I understand this correctly, the dates on these things are sketchy.

They did a model comparison in their book Creation as Science. Would it be possible for you to go to a public library and check it out? It is in the appendix of the book. Because it is copyrighted, they don't have this piece on their web site. That means I have to type it out. I have shared some of it on Ray's blog but it is very time consuming and it seems to lose its impact when you don't see the YEC, theistic, naturalistic and RTB's list of 80 expectations.

A model is a means of having expectations that can be falsified. Does that help?

Vera,

I know what a model is and yes, it requires falsifiability to be considered good science.

I guess what I'm looking for is something similar to the falsifier for evolution - a rabbit in the pre-Cambrian. That sort of thing.

If I can get to a library, I'll have a look but it could be a while before I have the time.

Vera,

I just had a quick skim through Genesis and I'm pretty sure God creates sea-dwelling life on the 5th day. The RTB chart shows life in the waters from day 1 onwards...

Also, Genesis has land plants before ocean life which would also seem to go against the graphic...

Any thoughts?

I have read enough of their model to know that they believe that God is silent on the subject of microbes simply because of the fact that nobody until about the last 100+/- years would be able to verify them. So they simply are not mentioned. The Bible had to span many types of cultures and technological advancements.

Also, Genesis has land plants before ocean life which would also seem to go against the graphic...

I believe that they believe, if I'm not mistaken, that land plants arrived about 650 million years and the fish were 527 million years ago but during that 3rd time period, the type of plant life was cryptogamic or cryptobiotic crusts which are organic soils composed of rock, dirt, cyanobacteria, lichen, microfungi, and various algae and bacteria. The point being that these all were introduced in this one time period. This 3rd era was important to create an oxygen rich atmosphere.
